Lightning risk, decided in seconds.
FlashAware turns the EUMETSAT satellite lightning feed into clear STOP, PREPARE and ALL CLEAR calls for South African golf clubs, schools, estates, construction sites and mines — delivered to the right phones, with a record of every call.
No hardware. No card for the trial. Hosted in Johannesburg.
How it works
Satellite feed
The Meteosat Third Generation Lightning Imager watches all of Southern Africa from orbit. Its flash products reach FlashAware in windows — minutes, not seconds, behind the sky.
Per-site risk engine
Every site gets its own STOP and PREPARE radii, windows and thresholds, evaluated every 60 seconds. Storm cells are tracked and their movement projected.
Alerts that arrive — and are recorded
Email, SMS and WhatsApp with escalation, delivery receipts and one-tap acknowledge from the field. Every decision lands in an audit log you can export.
What you get
Live map and nowcast
Flashes, storm cells and projected movement on one operational map.
Per-site thresholds
Radii, windows and trigger counts tuned per course, campus, estate or site.
Delivery assurance
SMS and WhatsApp receipts plus dead-recipient detection, so alerts provably reach people.
Replay and audit
Step through any storm after the fact; every call and acknowledgement is logged and exportable.
Teams and roles
Admins, operators and viewers per organisation, with strict tenant isolation.
Data honesty
If the feed stalls, sites go NO DATA FEED. FlashAware never issues an ALL CLEAR on stale data.
What FlashAware is not
Not a sub-minute ground network
Ground sensor systems detect strokes within seconds. Satellite products arrive in windows. If you run blasting or need sub-minute warning, use a ground network as your primary and FlashAware as the independent record and wide-area view.
Not a siren
FlashAware reaches people's phones and inboxes and logs who acknowledged. If you need a horn on the field, keep it — FlashAware tells you when to press it and proves that you did.
Not a substitute for judgement
If you hear thunder, act. The 30/30 rule and your safety officer come first. FlashAware adds data, reach and a paper trail.
Common questions
How quickly do alerts arrive after a flash?
Typically 2–16 minutes. The satellite publishes flash products in windows, and the risk engine evaluates every 60 seconds. We publish this number because you should plan around it.
Do we need any hardware?
No. Add your site on a map, set radii and recipients, and alerts flow to phones and inboxes.
What does it cost?
Club & School season pass R3,990 (one site, October–March) or R499 per site per month. Construction and industrial sites R1,500 per site per month plus R2,500 onboarding. Free 30-day trial, no card. Full pricing.
Where is our data kept and what about POPIA?
The service runs in Johannesburg. Lightning and alert data are retained for 30 days, recipient personal information in alerts is scrubbed after 7 days, and audit logs are kept for 90 days. See the privacy notice.
